Cordtsen Design Architecture was founded in 2009 in the attic of Spencer Cordtsen McCombe’s apartment. An alum of Roger Williams University, Spencer had established his niche for weaving vernacular with innovation into the striking design of The Aquidneck Club in 2000. This commanding debut laid the foundation for the rich network that encouraged his pursuit of creating meaningful, enduring architecture. The resiliency of Spencer’s practice proved to be a reflection of his work, and the CDA team’s reach and reputation quickly grew. By 2017, the firm established its headquarters in Middletown, Rhode Island, transforming a retail space into a collaborative studio designed to inspire. As CDA’s influence expanded, so did its footprint, leading to the opening of its Tampa, Florida, office in 2022.
